I am qualified as a Humanistic Integrative Therapist. I use several models of psychotherapy (Person Centred, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, CBT, Psychodynamic and more).
I can help you successfully navigate through various life challenges.
It means that during the process of working together you are at the centre of the work, and regarded as the expert in you. I make myself available to you to support you through during exploration and processing using the various models and experiences available to me.
The therapy approach is not defined in advance, rather each session is guided by your specific needs and the goals you have for yourself which we would establish and work towards.
My therapy work can help you with navigate through various life experiences such as: abuse, addictions, anxiety, bereavement, cultural and social issues, depression, identity issues, loss, mindfulness, nutrition, relationships, self-confidence, self-esteem, self doubt, self-love, sex related issues, sexuality, spirituality, stress, women's issues, work related issues and more.
Short term therapy
You may initially consider ‘short term therapy’ if you want to deal with a specific challenge in your life. The sessions will be set for a fixed period of time, typically 6-12 weeks.
In these sessions we will incorporate Person Centred approach and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
The purpose is to initially change the way people think about themselves and in turn, their environment. A short-term focus emphasises the importance of the present and the future, as opposed to the past. It encourages a flexible and creative approach to life situations.
Therapy encourages autonomy and can help individuals find their own resources, learn to recognise and use their own wisdom and discover personal methods for self-help, which should ultimately lead to self-trust and capability for self-change.
I incorporate mindfulness into the work for those who are interested in developing this skill.
Long term therapy
A psychodynamic approach is generally more appropriate in long term therapy.
This approach combines the relevant models of psychology to look at the lively and constantly active connections between different aspects of our personality.
These connections are formed through past and present relationships with significant others, as we develop and grow. These relationships affect us both consciously and unconsciously and may affect how we relate to people and situations throughout our lives.
This approach places much importance on how the past can influence the present, and how, in turn, patterns of behaviour from the past and manifest in all current relationships.
It also acknowledges the existence of the unconscious and how powerfully we can be motivated by our unconscious wishes.
I often incorporate a combination of Person Centred, CBT and a Psychodynamic approach into the sessions, depending on client’s needs.
In order to decide which type of counselling is right for you I offer a 30-minute introductory session free of charge. This is an opportunity for you to meet me, ask questions and discuss how we would proceed.
